The Associate Research Fellow is part of the Deakin Marine Mapping team within the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, which is one of four Schools in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment. This position reports to Deakin’s Recipient Representative (Associate Professor in Marine Science) and is focussed on sediment mapping, sources, distribution and availability within Port Phillip Bay.
Specifically, the role entails sediment characterisation with associated sedimentological analysis. You will estimate available sources and volumes, providing an estimate of nourishment volumes required to offset the predicted rise of sea levels and erosion. Integrating multiple remote sensing and physical sampling datasets, your output will include a map of sediment distribution and composition across Port Phillip Bay and the immediate surrounds, to assist future beach renourishment and coastal management activities.

To be successful, you’ll have:

A PhD degree in marine geoscience or biology or related field with a substantial research component
-
Emerging research and scholarship through publications, and/or exhibitions as appropriate to the discipline

Ability to make a contribution to communities through research

Capacity to contribute to teaching, research and administration
-
Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues

Ability to make a contribution to community engagement for research
