Biography & Research Interests

Dr Alexandre Schimel is a scientist/researcher in remote sensing of the marine and coastal environment. The core of his education and experience is in underwater acoustics theory, signal and image processing, and the processing of data from active sonar systems (multibeam, sidescan, etc.). But his background and skills in signal/image processing has led him to work with data from many other sensors: drone imagery, lidar data, underwater video footage from ROV or AUV, satellite imagery, etc.

Always passionate by new tech and methods, Alex is excitedly following up with the latest developments in Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Alex codes in MATLAB and Python. Check out his Multibeam data processing toolbox CoFFee (MATLAB) and the apps based on it: https://github.com/alexschimel/CoFFee
