Research Interests
Stephan is a Physical Oceanographer interested in utilizing hydrodynamic models to investigate the effects of physical forcing factors (wind, current etc.) on sediment resuspension and transport. Other research interests include using in situ and remote sensing data to investigate the seasonal changes in suspended particulate matter in the surface layer of the water column.
Stephan completed his PhD at The University of Southern Mississippi in 2019. His research focused on sediment and particulate matter transport in the nearshore region of the Gulf of Mexico, USA. This study was related to the broader question of how sediment and particulate matter transport contribute to the movement of oil along the nearshore region in Mississippi and Alabama.
