Dr Ali Jalali
Casual Research Fellow

Education
PhD, Marine and Environmental Sciences, Deakin University, Australia, 2015
Research Interests
Ali’s research focuses on marine environmental science, with expertise in spatial ecology, ecological modelling, and geospatial analysis. His work combines GIS, remote sensing, and statistical modelling to understand spatial and temporal patterns in marine and coastal ecosystems. Through his work at Deakin University and the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA), he has contributed to a diverse range of research projects spanning habitat mapping, ecological assessment, fisheries science, species conservation, and coastal planning.
Ali works with large spatial datasets integrated with field-based observations such as creel surveys and fisheries monitoring programs to investigate ecological patterns and processes across marine and coastal landscapes. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and spatial data-driven approaches, his research aims to translate complex environmental data into practical insights that support evidence-based environmental planning and sustainable natural resource management.
