Research Interests

Evan is a benthic ecologist specializing in sponge restoration and aquaculture, previously studying declines in sponge filtration across the Florida Keys in the face of habitat loss and eutrophication. He is now working with Deakin University and the Seagen Aquaculture company on Phillips Island to further understand the restoration needs of sponge reefs along the southern coast of Australia, as part of the Commonwealth National Industry PhD program.

Evans research interests center around human-environmental interactions, often in the context of habitat loss and restoration. His current work is aimed at creating industry-tested habitat restoration strategies in degraded sponge habitat, with the ultimate goal of creating modern sponge aquaculture techniques to meet the needs of an ever-changing industry.
