FRDC- Patterns in the dynamics of Southern Rock Lobster and Blacklip Abalone fisheries

Proudly funded by the fisheries research department corporation, Deakin Marine Mapping has successfully completed a state-wide mapping of Victorian coast and inshore waters. According to Daniel Ierodiaconou, leader of the project, the scale and detail of this project may be an Australian first.

These data-rich maps have revealed patterns relating to Blacklip abalone fisheries, which may lead to more effective management of these high value species. Furthermore, these maps could be used to guide investment in conservation technologies, and help to identify negative impacts on fisheries productivity from a changing climate.

Many thanks to university collaborators and representatives from the three abalone fishing zones.
